A blue screen font that turned me blue

I just visited the webpage of Oxford University, the oldest institution in the English speaking world. Despite the fact that this was not my first visit to the net space of the University, I felt intimidated by the success and the glory-in-life of people who graduated from Oxford. History unfolded before my eyes and I felt blue. More blue than the font colour of the University’s homepage. “We educate leaders for 800 years.”

(This is a weird feeling indeed. Just a second ago I wanted to write twenty consequent pages on the issue, but now it is like I don’t have much to say. I’ve just decided to push myself and give it a try. I really want to share this with you.)

Tell me people, what is success? Can there be success, even in the poorest meaning of the word, when there is misery all around the world? Can an individual be considered as a winner when there is still hopelessness? When Earth reminds me of a perfectly competitive firm which is about to cease to operate because Average Variable Costs are not greater or equal to price? (My very own definition of climatic changes and destruction) I really have to admit one thing. I do envy people who go along satisfyingly well with their conscience. I admire their apathy. I jealous their strong willingness to succeed at the expense of others.

When you know that you are able to achieve a certain goal, and then you fail to do so due to factors growing from the exterior, there is this pessimism which overwhelms me.

I wish I knew what it takes to have the chance to be a small part of our world’s elite. I wish I had the opportunity to let my intellect advance in such an environment. Blame me. I am the one responsible for my International Baccalaureate programme. There is no room for hope in the matter.

These conversations via msn can come really handy. I just figured that one should first define success. Then he shall set some short-run goals and step by step he’ll form a draft of what is success. If he defines success he will be able to change his point of view, and consider eventually things from a different angle. Isn’t that great? But what about now? What about Jay?

The sun is rising.

  1. I have been reading through your blog for a while, and I must say, you are what we would call μελοδραματικός. You dramatise things.
Success is something than can only be defined subjectively. For you, success may be to raise tomatos in your garden, whilst for the Greek basketball team success would be to conquer the Euro cup and so on and so forth. The fact that there are people who suffer does not mean we cannot enjoy what each of us considers personal achievements. This is the world we live in, we'd better enjoy it! Stop being a pessimist, and get the best you can out of life.
    Best,

  2. The cup is not half empty as pessimists say
as far as he sees nothing's left in the cup
A whole cup full of nothing for him to indulge
since the voice of ambition has long since been shut up

    A singer, a writer,
he's not dreaming now of going nowhere
    he gave heed to nothing
and all that he was is just a tragedy

So he voyages in circles succeeds getting nowhere
and submits to the substance that first got him there, there, there, there

    then in violent, frustration
he cries out to God or just no one
is there a point to this madness
and all that he was is just a tragedy

    Besides...
"Our problems are man-made, therefore they may be solved by man. No problem of human destiny is beyond human beings." (John F. Kennedy)- Dude, fuck pessimism ;) - Tho i adore this song: Blue Da ba Di da ba die nstufffff.
